Multan was once called 'the City of Gold' or 'the City of Peace' before it became known as Medinat-ul-awlia, the City of Saints. Some people attribute the peaceful nature of Multani people with the preaching and teachings of these saints. These saints were some very simple people. They only had one lesson to teach and that was of peace and brotherhood. Many people of this region were converted to Islam by their preachings and even continue to follow them today.
Another intresting fact that very few people know about is that the very first king of Afghanistan, Ahmed Shah Durrani was a Multani. He was born and raised in Multan.
